Basic skills

Some may think that math and reading are the most important basic skills, but I believe that some very important basic skills are baking and cooking. As part of home school we have added baking days and cooking nights. Our first baking adventure was pumpkin bread. It was a great simple starter that we got from a friends blog. I let Samantha do it all and only helped if asked(this meant I did the clean up). Samantha first got the recipe(basic computer skills).
She gathered all her ingredients(basic planning skills). Which was funny because the recipe made 4 loaves of bread. I didn't think about cutting the recipe in half until we were almost done!
She then measured and mixed like crazy(basic math skills using real life fractions)!
When it was all said and done we had 3 loaves of yummy bread and 1 tray of muffins. This morning the family is enjoying them for breakfast. Melia even thanked Samantha for being such a good cook. Tonight we will enjoy her dinner. Potato bar, salad, and fresh baked turtle bread(which Samantha will make today). I can't wait!

Southern Belle

Samantha came home the other day with her grandma and proudly announced she had gotten her Halloween costume. We have always done Halloween and when Samantha was young I wasn't a believer and didn't care what she wore or what we did. As time passes my feelings on this holiday are slowly changing. My mom is fully in love with Halloween and last year brought Samantha home with a she devil costume to wear. How do you tell a super happy kid that she can't wear the costume grandma got. So when Samantha was so happy, I was a little nervous. We had talked all ready about what was okay and she didn't let me down. Samantha will be a southern belle and the prettiest one around if you ask me.

The never ending chore!

I don't mind most chores. There is one though I always dread. I only don't like it because it never ends!

My children are a blessing not a burden part II

The more I read my first blog the more I thought I should explain something. I just wanted to say that I don't hate my work how some people hate going to work and would rather be any where else. I love my profession and where I work is a good place. I only hate work because it takes me away from my family which is much more important to me. Okay there you have it. Work place fine, away from kids not fine.
