The one thing...

The one thing this girl wanted for her fifth birthday. Maybe you can guess.
Hmmmmm. Yep. She wanted her ears pierced. It was done a little after her birthday with dad. What a great daddy daughter date night. And to top it all off the night ended with a yummy trip to Red Robin. This girl is getting way to big way to fast.

On the mend!!

I know that all of you out there are so curious how Caleb's burn is doing I thought I should update you. When we first went to the ER the doctor simply wanted me to clean it and apply ointment three times a day. Two days later we went to our doctors office where the treatment was changed. A lot of dead tissue had built up on his cheek and he was very swollen. The doctor took us back to a treatment room and cleaned up the burn to remove the dead skin. Caleb did very well with the entire thing. The wound was then dressed and I got new orders. A daily dressing change that required lots of scrubbing to remove as much dead skin as possible. Every day Caleb and mom got together and endured the pain. Once all the dead skin was gone we had permission to leave it open to air. Now his face is just a little pink and getting better every day!! We have been told from the very start that there shouldn't be any scar and it looks as if that is true. Praise the Lord for all his goodness in all things!!

Another First

This one is not a happy go lucky kind of first. It was our first trip to the ER for an injury. Under the watchful eye of his mother little Caleb fell head first into a fire pit. I watched the entire thing and it was a horrible slow motion moment. As soon as he started to fall I jumped from my chair to scoop him up. He was only there for a couple seconds, but it felt like an eternity!! My nurse self kicked in to high gear and we ran to cold water and ice. It turns out he was looking left when he fell so his burns are all on his left side. God also protected him by him falling into the one spot of the entire fire that was the least hot!The people we were with were so wonderful. Jeff took Caleb away from me and the men all gathered around him to pray. At that point in time I was in the house bailing. Mommy feelings took over. After a call to the doctor we took Caleb in to get checked out at the ER. The doctor was amazed at how calm Caleb was. He said there shouldn't be any scars and the burns are minor. We will be washing them three times a day and putting ointment on them. What a traumatic 4th of July! Today his little cheek which got the worst of it is all swollen like a chipmunk! My poor sweet son.
